Benefits of Green Tea Weight Loss

Benefits of Green Tea Weight Loss - Green tea is believed to have been discovered by the Chinese over four thousand years ago and used for its herbal and medicinal powers. Green Tea comes from the same plant Camellia Sinensis as traditional black tea. Green Tea is produced by steaming fresh leaves at high temperatures, therefore leaving a significant part of the nutritional, enzyme, tannins and flavonoids content intact. But production of black tea uses the dried and fermented leaves.

What creates these different teas is a process called oxidization that changes green tea to black tea. The bad news with oxidation from a health perspective is that the health-promoting plant nutrients in green tea called catechins are mostly destroyed by the oxidation process. Green tea contains high concentrations of catechin polyphenols. These compounds work with other chemicals to intensify levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis, where heat is created in the body by burning fuels such as fat.

Many research studies have shown that drinking green tea can have a positive effect on our body weight as well as on our general health. One of the most popular benefits of green tea weight loss. Weight is gained as excess sugars and fats are stored in the body as fat cells. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) from green tea has been found to be especially effective. EGCG is a powerful antioxidant with positive qualities but a balanced diet and exercise, lots of it, are of paramount importance to any weight reduction program. Green tea catechins can help prevent obesity by inhibiting the movement of glucose in fat cells. There is now good evidence that green tea catechins are related to reductions in body fat.

Unlike black tea, which is completely oxidized, green tea leaves are simply steamed and hence ensure the preservation of useful antioxidants, tannins and flavonoids. These studies indicate that green tea helps us shed unwanted kilos by helping to increase our metabolism (burn more calories/kilojoules throughout the day) and increase our body’s ability to burn fat (fat oxidation).

Three cups a day or more is the amount of Green Tea typically taken in Asian countries. The tea is usually brewed using 1 to 2 teaspoons of the dried tea in a cup of boiling water, or is steeped for 3 to 15 minutes. One way would be to choose a reputable brand of organic green tea at a health food store or natural grocery, and start by taking a cup of tea every day. You can also take a green tea extract, in the form of a supplement.
